Or a general place for me, Peter Esko, to put up things that amuse and or inspire me. Most of the time they will be related to design in some form or another, but every now and again you'll get the totally completely random and your mind might just be blown. Think of it like a blog but without the ability of others to post reply. Why you may ask...because it is my site. The 2012 London Olympic Logo (Here's a link and a fine article that begins to question it's motivations and merit.) Where to start...Ok so yes, it says 2012 in strange scrawled letters. I guess it could be considered edgy and cool in some strange foreign world. But that's not the point. After being in Salt Lake City for the 2002 Olympic Games I really have to ask why individual games need their own logos and brands.
The history of the games and the true brand of the games is and always will be the Olympic Rings. This is the logo of the games, all the games, everybody knows what it is, most know what it represents. For those who don't please read the next paragraph for a general overview. For those who do feel free to skip past it...
The Olympics date back to ancient Greek times, but the Olympic logo we know and recognize today has been around less than one hundred years. Frenchmen Pierre de Coubertin designed the logo in 1913 for the Paris Congress of the Olympic Movement. The logo was first found on a flag and had five interlocking rings–one for each continent represented in the Olympic Movement. Six colors were included as well, black, yellow, blue, red, green, and white, which were colors present in each nation represented by the organization. No ring is “assigned” to any particular continent. Source: logodesign.com
That said, I can't remember the logo from the games that happened in my own back, and front, yard. I can however remember the general feeling and look of the games which has no associations in my mind with the actual official "mark" of the games.
London is just another games where a random miscellaneous mark will be designed, used and forgotten. (Here is a collection of past games logos.) Can't we save, or donate the 400,000 pounds that were paid for this mark to make a better olympic games, make a better world, or just generally do something decent with it.
I'll step off the soapbox now...

So this is a personal pet peeve. The gross misuse of the word like. We aren't english majors or linguists, however, the trend towards using like in between seemingly every word of a sentence in common speech is really starting to grind on our last nerve. Here's a common examples...
So, I was like at the mall and like saw Bobby there with this other girl, and she's like such a #!&*?@. (Expletive deleted in order to keep this a reasonably PG site.)
Dear god, please just take out the word like and tell us what you actually mean. This epidemic of speech is just ridiculous and makes humanity sound as though the process of evolution is moving backwards at an incredibly rapid pace. You aren't making metaphors for anything here. Say what you want to say.
